I checked in with an old client and got quite the surprise

Whether you’re a current client, a past client, a potential client, or just here for some great tips on workouts, meals, mindset, and your overall health routine, thank YOU for being here.

If you’re a current client or a past client, my motto is that you’re a client for life.

This doesn’t mean we’ll be working together forever; that’s not the point.

The point here is that I will continue to check in with you because I care, and perhaps we worked together in the past, in which case I’m genuinely curious to see how you’ve been managing your health with continued curveballs thrown your way.

The reason I bring this up is that I checked in with an old client and a friend whom I had previously worked with over 10 years ago, from my finance days…

He shared he’d been dealing with a heavy workload and some health issues – when I hear “health issues,” I don’t typically dig unless that person is willing to share…

When a client enrolls in coaching, I like to get a full picture of what’s going on in their life.

I let them know I’m not a doctor or psychologist, but I’m here to guide you along the way and provide you with some useful tools to move you in the right direction towards your goals, through developing unique systems that work for you.

We dig deep and work through a lot together when you choose to take the next step to embark on transforming your health and fitness.

I like to assess and get a good sense of:
  • Sleep habits and sleep quality.
  • Stress levels and coping techniques.
  • Eating habits (not just high protein meals), but how often you’re eating, snacking, and your feeding window occur in a day.
  • What your weekly movement routine looks like, not just workouts. (NEAT)
  • Recovery, if at all part of the routine.
So, having known this past client’s capacity, capabilities, and strengths…to my surprise, he openly shared he’s screening for cancer.

I was taken aback, someone who had built some incredible strength, resilience, and mental fortitude when we worked together a couple of years ago, is now potentially facing some serious health issues to work through.

A thought that came to me is “life happens for us, not to us,” a great quote I often come back to from Tony Robbins.

There’s clearly something going on with this former client (cancer or not) that has perhaps been in his blind spot for a little while now, and it’s time he paid more attention to it. And give it the attention it needs to work through it.

If you listen to the body, give it what it needs (quality sleep, decent fuel – whole foods, movement, exercise), it can heal, show up for you, and respond in ways you could never imagine possible, NO MATTER your age.

So if you took anything away from today’s blog, perhaps it’s time you SLOW down to speed UP, take a necessary PAUSE if it’s been a while, or treat yourself to a long overdue massage that’s been on your to-do list for the last 6 months or a year.

This is your reminder to check your blind spots, listen to what’s going on internally, life is so fragile and can be gone before you know it.
